Reviving Remuna Wewa: Canal Rehabilitation Project
Description: Rehabilitation of the five kilometer canal system and restoration of 20 connecting canals to improve drainage reduce flooding and support the livelihoods of communities in Kalutara.
After 70 years, the 5 km-long canal system running through the paddy fields from Remuna Wewa in Kalutara was rehabilitated, including the restoration of 20 connecting canals. This initiative helped improve drainage, prevent flooding of major roads during the rainy season, and provide significant benefits to hundreds of thousands of people. – 2023 Disaster Management Program
